BISALLOY® Q700D: Less Weight. More Freight.

BISALLOY® Q700D is a Thermo-mechanical Controlled Process (TMCP) structural steel plate which delivers significant advantages for the transport sector – where tare weight, payload capacity and workshop efficiency matter more than ever.

Developed for engineers and fabricators building trailers, tippers and transport structures, the BISALLOY® Q700D brochure provides an overview of mechanical properties, application guidance, workshop fabrication tips and a worked weight-saving calculation.

What Q700D delivers

The core proposition is direct: Q700D’s ≥700 MPa yield strength allows engineers to specify thinner plate across structural components, reducing tare weight without compromising structural performance.

Moving from 12 mm Grade 350 to 8–10 mm Q700D (where design checks allow) reduces plate thickness by 17–33%. For a trailer chassis using 15–25 m² of structural plate across key load-carrying components, that can deliver a weight saving up to 471–785 kg per unit.

Every kg of steel you don’t carry is a kg of freight you can earn.

Beyond strength-to-weight ratio, Q700D also delivers:

  • Impact toughness: ≥47 J at –20°C, supporting performance on cold-climate routes and early-morning starts
  • Formability: TMCP processing means Q700D bends cleanly at tight radii, supporting folded rails and formed stiffeners without the cracking risk of Q&T plate
  • Fabrication-friendly: in many trailer builds, preheat can be minimised or eliminated, a practical advantage for workshop throughput
  • Certified performance: mill test certificates supplied with every plate, with full traceability to manufacturing route for QA and specification requirements

Where Q700D earns its keep

Q700D is suited to the load-carrying structure of trailers and transport vehicles, where strength-to-weight ratios directly determine payload headroom:

  • Chassis rails: primary load path, must resist bending and torsion under payload and road shocks
  • Crossmembers: control twist and buckling, keep suspension geometry true
  • Web stiffeners: reinforce high-stress zones around mounts and welds without thickening the whole beam
  • Subframes: spread cargo loads and protect the chassis at mount points
  • Side-rails, reinforcement plates and folded sections

Fierce in the field. Friendly in the shop.

TMCP processing and microalloying deliver a practical balance of strength, toughness and fabrication predictability. The brochure includes guidance on forming, welding and cutting Q700D, including practical tips for the workshop.
